I think
this is the first time I've released two comics in one day;
mainly because I realized what day it was, and that that day
required SOME kind of a special, heh.
It was kind of interesting when I found out that what we think
of as commercialized Easter motifs - easter eggs and the Easter
bunny - are really footnotes from Eastre, an Anglo-Saxon festival.
The first Christian missionaries to the British isles, rather
than completely wipe out the traditions of the Anglo-Saxons,
just incorporated Christian ideas into their existing stuff.
Eastre was on the same day as the observance rebirth of Christ,
so there ya go.
Easter Eggs are a symbol of rebirth in many cultures (including
the Anglo-Saxons), and the rabbit was the animal of one of their
gods... and these two symbols carried over into modern times,
albeit in commercialized, distorted forms.
Interesting history, is it not? Makes you wonder how the para-Christian
religion in Ragnarok Online works... |
