Ragnarok Wisdom IRC Channel Rules and FAQ
Okay,
so first off, what are the rules?
The
rules I have in #ragnarokwisdom are similar to those found
in the Ragnarok Wisdom forums. Here's the list:
* Don't be a jerk.
* Don't make prejudiced remarks.
* No porn or hentai to be posted to the channel.
* No public discussion or practice of illegal trades (Software
piracy, RO private servers, e.t.c)
* If something someone says is offensive to you, tell
the person in a private message or go to an op about it.
If you think something may be against the rules but you're
not sure, PM me on it and ask me.
Why
do you have these rules?
A
brief explanation for each:
Don't be a jerk:
I think that's obvious. I don't tolerate people
who act like an asshole to everyone else, or gets off
on tormenting the rest of the channel goers.
Don't make prejudiced remarks:
In this instance I'm talking about hateful
remarks based on someone's ethnicity, religion, nationality,
or sexual preference - among other similar lines of grouping.
If you make racial slurs or similar hateful remarks, I
will warn/kick/ban you. If you make hateful remarks about
the people of a certain nation, I will do the same.
No porn or hentai:
None of that in the channel. Keep it to PMs
if you want to talk with someone about it.
No illegal discussion or practice
of illegal trades:
Like I said on the forums rules post - I don't
care if you do it or not, but don't bring it here. As
of the writing of these rules, esper.net's people are
watching Ragnarok Online-related channels very
carefully. One slip up and a channel could be closed down
and its people k-lined. Therefore I won't tolerate any
illegal discussion - Private servers, warez, crackz, codez,
whatever. Don't even mention it.
By the way, MP3 scripts are okay, generally. The program
itself is not against the rules, after all.
What
will you do if I break the rules?
We
have a system in place that acts as a guideline for punishment.
If we catch you breaking the rules, your punishment depends
on the severity of the breach.
There's several categories we go by:
Misunderstanding of the rules:
Warnings are only given as a response. However, if you
don't listen, you will get kicked, and you will get banned
if you constantly defy the rules.
Indirect violation:
Warnings are only given as a response. However, if you
don't listen, you will get kicked, and you will get banned
if you constantly defy the rules.
Direct violation:
Warnings are only given as a response. However, if you
don't listen, you will get kicked, and you will get banned
if you constantly defy the rules.
Flagrant/Big violation:
You'll get kicked immediately, and banned if you keep
it up.
Gross violation:
Immediate banning.
If you break a rule/a series of rules over a period of
time, punishment changes ...
Within a week of a previous violation:
No softening of punishment. It will be treated as if you
are not listening/constantly defying the rule.
Between a week to two weeks of a
previous violation:
A warning or a stern kick.
Beyond two weeks of a previous violation:
A warning.
What
do the people have voices for?
Those
people with voices are people who are/were RW cast members
at one time.
Geez,
why's everyone so quiet?
Don't
be surprised if you happen to join the channel and see
people, but no one's talking. Often people will leave
their IRC clients running even while they aren't looking
at the channel, are busy, or even while they're asleep
or out of the house. Idling is a common sight on IRC channels.
If you stick around or leave the client running you'll
likely see the channel come to life. Also keep in mind
that you might be awake and hanging out in the channel
at a time when most of its users are asleep. Give it some
time!
If you want to hang out but hate how quiet it is, don't
hesitate to invite your friends to the channel to help
spice things up (just er, make sure they read the rules).
Keep in mind, only very big (and even then, only a handful)
IRC channels move a mile a minute! If you want to see
#ragnarokwisdom like that, you gotta spread the word!
Who
is Ktarchan?
Ktarchan
is a bot run by one of the channelgoers, Ktarthan. He
maintains a list of quotes which can be accessed by saying
".quote" or ".quote" and a number.
Saying ".quotes" will cause Ktarchan to report
how many quotes he has in his database.
There are other commands you can give Ktarchan, but you'll
have to find those out on your own. :D
Who
the heck is Leo Von Frisch?!
Leo
Von Frisch, or LeoVonFrisch as his nick in IRC goes, is
a MegaHAL chat bot (hosted by Neko-san) that hangs out
in the channel to help add fun to the atmosphere. Try
talking to him by typing out his nick and a message, and
watch the fun begin!
Sometimes, LeoVonFrisch will be set to talk on his own
and will randomly interject his ramblings when someone
says something.
If you're wondering, Leo Von Frisch is named for the NPC
in iRO's Closed Betas that, in a very Engrishy manner,
taught new players about the game and how to play it.
Nowadays, he can now be found in Prontera's Chivalry building,
as part of the Knight's test.
What's
with all these CTCP Sounds?
That's
Client to Client Protocol messages. There's more information
on the whole CTCP Sounds thing at the RW sound FAQ. http://www.adultimum.net/rw/rwsounds.htm
